FAQs
The Academic Plan

The academic plan is about understanding our strengths as a university and then building on them. These are just a few examples of how the plan is already in action. The implementation of the plan is the responsibility of all across the University. Accomplishing its goals and challenges draws on contributions from the entire University community.

Discovery
With courses such as "From Frankenstein to Dolly," one of our new first-year inquiry seminars, UNH is changing its definition of undergraduate education, building on the great strides we’ve already made with undergraduate research opportunities, the Honors Program, and international education. In 2003, UNH officially became a full land-, sea-, and space-grant institution and a top-tier Sea Grant College, thanks in large part to the scientists and graduate students working in the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space. Project 54 Engagement and Outreach
From first-year students documenting gravesites in a local community to fostering small business development in the North Country, UNH is committed to meeting the needs of the citizens of New Hampshire and beyond. The University is an ideal partner, as the New Hampshire law enforcement community discovered working with UNH on the development of the country’s first fully integrated, voice-operated police cruiser — Project54. Resourcefulness
The University makes remarkably efficient use of its resources — human, natural and financial. The UNH Foundation, established to increase private support for the University, completed the most ambitious fundraising effort in UNH history two years ahead of schedule. Concurrently, the University partnered with state legislators and local businesses on KEEP-NH, a major public and private investment in the state’s economic future. UNH has leveraged its research prowess to gain access to the prestigious Boston Library Consortium, which gives the UNH community access to a 24/7 reference service and the resources of some of the most well-known research institutions in the world. PFF Class Effectiveness
The University constantly assesses everything it does in support of the educational mission: from evaluating and improving its teaching, research, and service programs to developing a master plan to ensure that future academic, residential, and recreational needs are met while preserving the campus’ distinctive character and place in the community. Accreditation is another way the University evaluates its strengths and challenges. Also visit: Institutional Research

Community
The University works hard to foster a diverse campus climate where everyone feels included. Student organizations such as the Student Senate and services such as the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs give students a voice on many University issues. The Faculty Senate provides leadership and governance in advancing the University’s academic mission. In recent years events such as the Student Summit on celebratory behavior, and the enrollment of Sudanese refugees brought home the importance of community — on a national and even global level.
